We can become so used to worrying that it becomes part of who we think we are. If something doesn’t go our way, we may mutter, “Now, there’s something else I have to worry about it.” Worry can become so commonplace that the burden never seems to leave us completely.
This can happen fairly easily if we have negative role models. Worrying may be equated with love. If they worry, they care about us, we may believe. If they don’t worry, maybe they don’t care, or have time for us.
But worrying is a form of fear. And God doesn’t give us a spirit of fear. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 KJ/AV
When our problems loom large before us, provoking us to worry, we need to remember God is so much greater than any of our problems.
I like to think of that problem as a little black cloud over our heads. It seems dark all around us because it is right on top of us. But God is bigger. If you can just imagine a big man coming along and blowing that cloud right away from us. God can do that with our problem or problems. With just one puff, he can blow them right out of our lives.
If he hasn’t blown it away, he’s got a plan to use it — in a good way. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 KJ/AV
Maybe God wants to teach us something, encourage us to seek him, or use it to mold us into the person he wants us to be.
So next time worry comes knocking on my door, I’m going to try to remember that little cloud and how big our God really is. How ’bout you?
